Leicester City Clinical Commissioning Group, was established in April 2013 to "plan and manage most healthcare services for people living in Leicester City." [1]

Criticism

Dr Lucy Reynolds wrote in 2015: "The current NHS privatisation is the mechanism to effect this transformation in England, with a very clever device, CCGs, invented by John Redwood MP in 1986 as a transitional step to enable this wholesale transformation to an insurance-based system." [2]

Health Hubs

In November 2015, the CCG wrote: "Four healthcare hubs that provide Leicester City patients with additional GP and nurse appointments during evenings, weekends and bank holidays, are now all open for business and are about to benefit from a city-wide promotional campaign to raise patient awareness... The healthcare hubs have been made possible by a successful bid by three federations of GP practices in Leicester City from the Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund (PMCF). The hubs will be operating until 31st March 2016 to test this way of delivering care for patients. The learning from the project will be used to develop future services." [1]

"The four healthcare hubs have been funded by the Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund. The service has been arranged for Leicester City patients by three federations of Leicester City GP practices (Millennium Federation, Across Leicester Health and City Central), supported by NHS Leicester City Clinical Commissioning Group and NHS England."
