The World Resources Institute (WRI) was founded in 1982 by James Gustave Gus Speth who served as the Institute's first president until January 1993. Speth remains as a member of the Board. Based in Washington, D.C., WRI is a center for policy research and technical assistance on environment and development issues. WRI's mission is "to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth's environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations." [1]
WRI is an enthusiastic proponent of Carbon Capture and Storage, an experimental technology aimed at reducing carbon emissions from coal-fired power stations. (For further details see World Resources Institute and Carbon Capture and Storage).
