The World Land Trust "is an international conservation charity (Reg. No. 1001291), based in Halesworth, a rural town in Suffolk, UK. Since its foundation in 1989 as the World Wide Land Conservation Trust, the World Land Trust has been working to preserve the world's most biologically important and threatened lands, and has helped purchase and protect over 375,000 acres of habitats rich in wildlife, in Asia, Central and South America and the UK." [1]

Lee Durrell together with the late Gerald Durrell, officially launched the WLT on 8 May 1989 at Syon House Butterfly House. [2]

  • Environmental Consultant - Pete Wilkinson – Environmental consultant, helps with broad environmental issues, in particular energy.
  • Other Advisors - Iain Orr – After a career in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), including Consulates in Ghana and China, Iain was Head of Biodiversity until retirement and now advises the Trust on international affairs.

Dr. Dominick Spracklen – Advises the WLT on carbon sequestration and related issues.

Carbon Balanced

  • Rebecca Absalom - Restoration Ecology Projects Officer. Rebecca is responsible for the administration, development and management of WLT's restoration ecology projects.
  • Hannah Doyle - Carbon Programme Officer. Hannah manages the Carbon Balanced programme, and is the the primary point of contact for all carbon related enquiries.
  • Roger Wilson. Roger is the restoration ecology team's technical expert and he has helped design this programme. He has a long history of working with the WLT, and was the first Manager of Programme for Belize's Rio Bravo Carbon Sequestration Pilot Project. He now works with WLT in designing and managing the field projects that deliver the offset and tree-planting commitments on the ground.
  • Andrew Smiley. Andrew spent several months assisting WLT as a volunteer, helping set up the carbon monitoring systems, both in the UK and in Ecuador. He now undertakes short-term contracts for WLT as necessary, particularly in providing field project support.
