The Progressive Media Project "has distributed more than 2,500 op-eds that have placed over 10,000 times in large and small newspapers around the country. The Progressive Media Project has also hosted more than 40 skills-building op-ed writing clinics for foundation grantees, nonprofit organizations, activists and community groups." [1]

  • Patricia Aufderheide - is a professor of communications at American University in Washington, D.C. She is the author of The Daily Planet: A Critic on the Capitalist Culture Beat.
  • Jeff Cohen - was one of the founders of FAIR (Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting) and is a frequent commentator on radio and TV.
  • Barbara Ehrenreich - is a well-known essayist and social critic. She writes for many newspapers and magazines including The Progressive, The New York Times, and The Nation. She wrote Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America, and her most recent book is Dancing in the Streets: A History of Collective Joy.
  • Mike Ervin - is a Chicago-based writer and disability-rights activist with ADAPT. He is also the producer of “The Strength Coach,” a nationally syndicated radio talk show.
  • Laura Flanders - is the host of “RadioNation with Laura Flanders” on Air America Radio and community radio stations nationwide. She’s also the author of BUSHWOMEN: Tales of a Cynical Species, and Blue Grit.
  • Herbert Chao Gunther - is president and CEO of Public Media Center, a leading 501(c)(3) nonprofit strategic marketing, advocacy and communications agency.
  • Chester Hartman - is the director of research at the Poverty & Race Research Action Council in Washington, D.C.
  • Allen Hunter - Chair, is a senior research scholar at the International Center for Advanced Studies at NYU.
  • Sam Husseini - is communications director at the Institute for Public Accuracy.
  • Andrea Lewis - is a San Francisco-based writer and co-host of “The Morning Show” on KPFA Radio in Berkeley.
  • Manning Marable - is the director of the Institute for Research in African-American Studies at Columbia University.
  • Elizabeth Martínez - is the author of 500 Years of Chicano History and De Colores Means All of Us: Latina Views for a Multi-Colored Century. She co-founded and directs the Institute for MultiRacial Justice, a resource center to help build alliances between peoples of color.
  • Salim Muwakkil - is a senior editor at In These Times magazine in Chicago, as well as a contributor for The Chicago Tribune.
  • Robert W. McChesney - is a professor at the Institute of Communications Research at the University of Illinois. He is the president of Free Press, a national media reform organization. His most recent book is The Problem of the Media: U.S. Communication Politics in the Twenty-First Century.
  • Erik Ness - a freelance writer, was the founding editor of the Progressive Media Project.
  • John Nichols - is the associate editor for The Capital Times of Madison, Wisconsin, and the Washington correspondent for The Nation magazine.
  • Michael Omi - is a professor of Asian-American Studies and Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
  • Mark Anthony Rolo - is the former education director at the Native American Journalists Association. He is a guest lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
  • Holly Sklar - is an op-ed columnist for McClatchy-Tribune Information Services. Her latest book is Raise The Floor: Wages and Policies That Work for All of Us.
  • Gar Smith - the Editor Emeritus of Earth Island Journal, currently serves as editor at the Pesticide Action Network. He edits The-Edge.org, an online environmental newsmagazine and is co-founder and Web editor of Environmentalists Against War.
  • Denice Zeck - is the executive director of American Forum, a national clearinghouse for editorial opinion. She is the author of Op-Eds: A Cost Effective Strategy for Advocacy.
