Box 86 – 00502 Nairobi Tel: 041 200 2282 Website: www.kenyawildlifetrust.org "Since October 2007 when Kenya Wildlife Trust (KWT) was founded as an initiative of a few Directors of Ker & Downey Safaris Company, in collaboration with Bill Winter Safaris Ltd, it has been able to make a lot of progress and is gradually making an impact on the intended local communities, habitat and wildlife. Ker and Downey Safaris and Bill Winter Safaris have been operating in Kenya since 1946 and 1972 respectively, and have therefore ‘co-evolved’ with the wildlife and the conservation movement in Kenya. Specialized Safaris ltd too joined the partnership last year bringing in new strength. Guides in these companies have a long tradition of personal involvement in conservation, with many having been voluntary and honorary wardens for the Kenya Wildlife Service.
"KWT is a registered trust in Kenya and in the USA as Friends of Kenya Wildlife Trust (FoKWT), complete with its own board of directors...
"KWT managed to forge partnerships with Local communities and conservation organizations namely Living with Lions, Northern Rangelands Trust, Big Life International (BLF), Born Free Foundation and Kenya Wildlife Service that enabled it to realize greater achievements of its projects than it did previously. KWT is well aware of the vital role that effective partnerships play in sharing of information and expertise as well as mobilizing resources towards a common objective" [1]
- Michael Wamithi is KWT’s former executive director [1]
