Companies that test on animals, laboratories, contract laboratories, breeding, biological supply (dissection) and related articles. This site has links to biomedical research facilities by state and PDF copies of government documents where the facilities must report their animal usage. However, at no time have all laboratories in the U.S. reported their experimental totals. The total of non-reporting facilities has varied from 22 to 128 (out of approximately 1100). This does not include those animals not covered under the AWA, which are not even counted. Over 90% of the animals used in experimentation are purposely excluded from protection under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA), the only federal law which over sees animal testing. Additionally, these statistics do not cover animals which are being held in laboratories for conditioning or breeding. Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act

The FD&C Act does not specifically require the use of animals in testing cosmetics for safety, nor does the Act subject cosmetics to Food and Drug Administration premarket approval.
