An article from 2000 notes: "After being rescued from the brink of bankruptcy eight years ago by an arm of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church, the University of Bridgeport still clings tightly to Moon's financial lifeline.
"Not even the infusion of millions of dollars has freed the campus from chronic financial instability -- and now the university has turned to a prominent church member to get a better grip on Moon's investment.
"The appointment of Neil A. Salonen, former head of the Unification Church in the United States, raised eyebrows among local critics who still consider the church a cult, but Salonen insists he was named president for his management skills, not his religious affiliation." [1]
