Talk:Leonard Asper
Edit note
I moved this off the Leonard Asper page as a) it relates to his father; b) it is unreferenced and c) enough time has now elapsed to comment on Leonard's approach. So I think this is better off the page and, if it goes anywhere, on a page about his father.--Bob Burton 14:42, 5 November 2007 (EST)
Under his father, the editorial content of all of the above, plus Canada.com, their blanket site, was centrally written - erasing centuries old traditions in some cases of independent editorial voice. A strict pro-Israel stance was part of this, and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation was frequently criticized for not clearly supporting Israeli stances on Mideast issues. There were chill suits placed on any critic of the late Asper, who had strong Liberal Party of Canada connections.
It is unclear whether his son Leonard intends to continue any of these policies. Daily control of CanWest was put in the hands of Frank McKenna - but the balance of power between owners and executives is yet to be determined.
