Sosian
"Nairobi, communications were virtually non-existent and cattle ranching in Northern Kenya was a seriously adventurous pastime. Major Edwards died in 1977, after which the land fell into ruin and was over grazed.
"After a severe drought in the 1990s, there was very little grassland or vegetation remaining. In 1999 a diverse group of shareholders came together to buy Sosian with the aim of restoring the ecology. The old ranch house which had been built in 1940s by Italian artisans was completely re-built. The ranch management and good rains has allowed the vegetation to flourish.
"Since Sosian's restoration, the wildlife (including several endangered species) has increased in great numbers and there are now over 100 people employed on the ranch in tourism, cattle-ranching, anti-poaching and security." [1]
