Rudi's Organic Bakery LLC is the largest producer of certified organic bread in the United States shipped frozen around the country. According to the company website, "What is now Rudi’s Organic Bakery began in 1976 as Rudi's Bakery, a small local bakery opened by Sheldon Romer in Boulder, Colo. Romer named the bakery after Swami Rudrananda, a spiritual leader of an ashram in New York who was instrumental in bringing Eastern culture and spiritual traditions to many Americans. Rudi’s Bakery soon gained a reputation for nutritious, flavorful, preservative-free breads, rolls and buns." The bakery started using organic ingredients in 1991, became certified organic in 1998, and changed its name to incorporate the word "organic" in 2001. It is now part of Boulder-based Charter Baking Co.[1] Mark Retzloff, co-founder of Aurora Organic Dairy and Horizon Organic as well as Alfalfa's Market and Eden Foods, was CEO from 2001 to 2004.[2]

Rudi's has ties to the Organic Trade Association (OTA), The Organic Center, and the Ecological Farming Association’s Eco Farm Conference.[3]
