Biographical Information

"Mr. Roy Cecil Andersen CA(SA), CPA(Texas) served as Group Chief Executive of Liberty Group Ltd., until March 11, 2003. Mr. Andersen is a Brigadier of the South African army and helped Liberty cut costs and gain market share from larger rivals Sanlam Ltd. and U.K-based Old Mutual Plc in the six years he led the insurance company. He served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Ernst & Young. He served as President of JSE Ltd from 1992 to 1997. He has been an Independent Non-executive Chairman of Murray & Roberts Holdings Ltd. since 2004. His previous positions as Chairman include : STANLIB Limited, Guardian National Insurance Company Limited, Charter Life Insurance Company Limited, Liberty Group Properties Limited. He served as Chairman of Sanlam Ltd from June 2004 to June 9, 2010. He served as Deputy Chairman of Liberty Group Ltd and Standard Bank Group Ltd. He has been Independent Non Executive Director at Nampak Ltd. since November 21, 2008. He has been Non Executive Director of Sasfin Holdings Ltd. since February 14, 2011. He serves as Independent Non-Executive Director of Virgin Active Group Limited (United Kingdom) and Aspen Pharmacare Holdings Limited. He has been Director of Murray & Roberts Holdings Ltd since 2003. He has been Director of Aspen Pharmacare Holdings Limited since 2008. He serves as Trustee of International Accounting Standards Committee Foundation. He served as Executive Director of Standard Bank Group Ltd. from 1999 to May 31, 2003. He served as director of Werksmans Inc. Attorneys.He served as Executive Director of Standard Bank Investment Corporation from 1999 to May 31, 2003 and served as Executive Director of Liberty Group Ltd. from 1997 to May 31, 2003. His former directorships include JSE Limited, South African Airways (Pty) Limited, South African Breweries Limited, The Premier Group Limited, The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited and Liberty International plc. He is Major General and Chief of Defence Reserves of the SANDF, director of Business Against Crime and the Business Trust. Mr. Andersen is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Johannesburg Children’s’ Home. He obtained CA from South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and CPA from Texas."
