Raymond Pearl (Prof., Johns Hopkins Univ. NY Acad. of Medicine): In 1938, Professor Raymond Pearl of Johns Hopkins University reported to the N.Y. Academy of Medicine on a major study he had directed that showed that "smoking is associated with a definite impairment of longevity." (L. White, Merchants 1988).
