Biographical Information

"Paul Bourgeois is the Founder and Managing Director of Zero Carbon Britain. ZCB was set up in 2007 as a result of the need to offer individuals, communities, not for profit and government organisations, SME’s and larger businesses a single service solution for all aspects of the low carbon economy and lifestyle agenda. ZCB offers consultancy, advocacy, advice, training and sustainable lifestyle solution options through its team, Associates and partner organisations.

"Before setting up ZCB Paul was the Development Director for Mass Market Renewables at Renewables East, the regional renewable energy agency funded by EEDA. He was responsible for maximising commercial renewable energy technology mainstream uptake in new build housing throughout the regions six counties, and assisting the manufacturers and installers to accelerate the growth of the supply chain.

"Paul’s previous role as Environmental Research & Energy Officer at Broadland District Council included setting up and managing the energy team which also covered the South Norfolk Council area. He championed solar water heating through the BroadSol Project and through self build workshops. He managed to exceed both council’s domestic carbon emission reduction targets each year for the last three years. As a result of his activities he received five national awards in recognition of his endeavours in just two years, including two Green Apple Awards and the Regional Energy Officer of the Year Award in 2005.

"Paul’s first environmental role was that of LA21 & Recycling Officer at Broxtowe Borough Council in Nottinghamshire where he managed a three council, two year home composting evaluation project with the Henry Doubleday Research Association.

"He graduated with a BSc (Hons) Science and the Environment degree from De Montfort University in Leicester in 1997. In 2009 he finished writing up a nine year postgraduate Masters Research project at the UEA in retrospectively applied energy efficiency technologies in the existing building stock and householder’s behaviour to physical intervention.

"Paul was born in Loughborough, Leicestershire, and has lived in Norfolk since graduating. With his wife and two children Paul hopes to build a truly autonomous ecologically sound home to show the value of sustainable living and test out a range of low carbon technologies."[1]
