"The Other Foundation (tOF) is essentially an LGBTI community foundation for Southern Africa. We are registered as an African trust dedicated to advancing human rights in Southern Africa, with a particular focus on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people. The Other Foundation aims to contribute to a self-sustaining human rights movement in Southern Africa, in which people actively defend each other’s rights." [1]

"In February 2012, Inyathelo – The South African Institute for Advancement was contracted to appoint a board for the Other Foundation (tOF) on behalf of the Atlantic Philanthropies to ensure transparency and avoid potential conflicts of interest. A public call for nominations was made through newspaper advertisements and a range of human rights websites. Subsequently, 140 nominations were received and reviewed. Shortlisted candidates were then interviewed by a panel drawn together by Inyathelo. A six-member founding Board was appointed out of that process."[2]
