Nicholas Burns
Ambassador R. Nicholas Burns "is Professor of the Practice of Diplomacy and International Politics at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. From 2005 to 2008 he was US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, the nation's highest-ranking career diplomat. He led US efforts to curb Iran's nuclear capability and was lead negotiator for the landmark US-India civil nuclear agreement. Burns also served as US Ambassador to NATO and to Greece, and as Spokesman of the State Department. In addition, he served for five years (1990 to 1995) at the National Security Council, where he was Director for Soviet Affairs for President George H.W. Bush and then Special Assistant to President Clinton and Senior Director for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia affairs. Earlier in his career, Burns served in Jerusalem and Cairo. He is a Director of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, The Atlantic Council, and several other organizations. Burns holds a BA from Boston College and an MA in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins University. He speaks French, and some Arabic and Greek." [1]
