National Federation of Republican Assemblies
The National Federation of Republican Assemblies (NFRA) is a national conservative grassroots organization whose purpose is to take over the Republican Party from what it terms "RINOs" ("Republicans in Name Only"); i.e. moderates. It refers to itself as "the Republican Wing of the Republican Party". [1]
The group is especially strong in the west. It's California chapter, the California Republican Assembly, is the state's largest Republican volunteer organization, [2] and its endorsement carries enormous weight.[3][4] Similarly, Arizona Republican Assembly President Randy Pullen was recently elected chairman of the state's Republican Party, despite a running battle with powerful U.S. Senator John McCain. [5]
Other nationally notable NFRA figures include anti-tax activist and Jack Abramoff friend Grover Norquist, President of the District of Columbia Republican Assembly; former PayPal counsel Rod Martin, NFRA President and also founder of TheVanguard.Org; and noted anti-feminist Phyllis Schlafly.
