Nancy Muirhead

Nancy L. Muirhead "is Assistant Secretary of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. She is also Program Director for the Fund’s Pivotal Place grantmaking in South Africa which has three objectives: to improve the quality and accessibility of basic education for children; to assist orphans and vulnerable children in response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic; and to assist understanding of the linkages between HIV/AIDS and sustainable development, democratic practice, and peace and security issues in South Africa, and promote integrated responses to the broad societal impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. From 1990-2001 she also led the Fund’s work to strengthen the nonprofit sector in Central and Eastern Europe. Ms. Muirhead was one of the founding co-chairs of the steering committee of the Africa Grantmakers' Affinity Group (a Tides Center project) and is currently a member of the executive committee of the Africa Grantmakers’ Affinity Group. She is a member of the international committee of the Council on Foundations, and a member of the board of Infinite Family, an NGO that builds net families around South African children, Friends of God's Golden Acre USA, an NGO that focuses on supporting orphans and vulnerable children in South Africa; and People to People, an NGO that aims to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia. Ms. Muirhead is also a member of steering committee of the Coalition on Children Affected by HIV/AIDS, a group of donors and NGOs working to raise visibility of children’s issues at the 2006 International AIDS Conference in Toronto.

"Prior to joining the Fund in 1989, Ms. Muirhead practiced law at Fox, Horan & Camerini, a firm in New York City specializing in international commercial transactions in Europe and Latin America. Ms. Muirhead has a J.D. from New York University and a B.A. in international affairs and French civilization from Brown University."
