Biographical Information

Mr Mike Kapur joined the De Montfort University "Board in May 2009. He is Chair of the university’s Audit Committee, was appointed as Deputy Chair of the Board of Governors in February 2012 and is a Pro Chancellor of the University, participating in key ceremonial events throughout the academic year. In 2002, Mike, communications expert, founded Signum Corporate Communications Ltd and is the Chief Operating Officer, ensuring that all aspects of company strategy are implemented and performance managed.

"He has also been the Chairman of the National Space Centre since 2009 and more recently is a trustee of Leicester Sports Partnership Trust. Mike started his career in 1985 at KPMG as the senior manager responsible for audit and business advisory services to Owner Managed Businesses. Between 1992 and 1994 he was Computer Audit Manager, advising clients on improvements to their IT environment, including selection and implementation of new systems, as well as enhancing security procedures over sensitive data. In May 1993, Mike was awarded the title “East Midlands Young Project Manager of the Year” by the Institute of Management and National Westminster Bank. A year later he was selected by the DTI as one of ten local business people to share views on the local economy with the Prime Minister, John Major, during his visit to Leicester.

"Mike became the Director of Entrepreneurial Service, at Ernst & Young, with responsibilities for budget setting, performance measurement and analysing the “success” of projects to decide on future strategy. During this time he was also elected Chairman of the Institute of Management (Leics) and a member of the East Midlands Regional Board. In July 1997, he was seconded to Ernst & Young International in Cleveland (USA) to help modify new audit methodology for owner managed business. Two years later, he moved to Parker Plant Limited, as Group Finance Director, was appointed a director of Leicester Business Voice in 2003 and was also Non-Executive Director, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust between 1994 and 2009.
