Michael Herlihy
"Michael joined Compass Partners in 2006, as a Non-Executive Director and is a Senior Adviser to the Fund. Since 2008 he has been General Counsel at Smiths Group plc where he is a member of the executive and investment committees.
"Previously, he was General Counsel and Executive Vice President, Mergers & Acquisitions, at Imperial Chemical Industries PLC where he was a key contributor to the Group’s transformation programme. This involved well over one hundred acquisitions and disposals (both public and private market) with a total value in excess of £13 billion. Michael also led the successful resolution of a number of major lawsuits in both the UK and US; was nominated for the Group’s Crisis Management Committee and took Executive Team responsibility within the ICI Executive team for the development of the Group’s Ethics and Sustainability policies.
"Prior to his appointment as General Counsel in 1996, Michael held a number of other senior legal and financial roles including that of Group Taxation Controller. Before joining ICI in 1979 he worked in a number of other legal and financial roles in industry and the public sector. Michael is a graduate of St Catherine’s College, Oxford and a solicitor admitted to practice in England & Wales. In addition to his roles with Compass Partners and Smiths Group he is the Senior Independent Director at Imperial Tobacco Group PLC."[1]
