Biographical Information

"Family Life (her own and that of others) has been central to everything else that Margaret has undertaken. She was the founder of Home-Start in Leicester in 1973, then developed and ran it with others nationally and internationally over 25 years.

"After her retirement in 1998 she was invited by the Home-Office, along with 4 others to establish the National Family and Parenting Institute, where she served on its Board for 8 years. She chaired the Dutch sponsored International Initiative for Children, Youth and Families, working with policy makers, managers, practitioners and researchers throughout the world. She served on the Board of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust; was Secretary of its East Midlands Association; was an External Assessor of the Co-operative College Diploma in Policy Studies; and a Trustee of the American Reclaiming Youth International. Inter alia she has worked with primary and secondary schools as well as with HM Prison Leicester, and been involved in many local and national voluntary organisations.

"She has received various awards and honours. Her book about the first 25 years of Home-Start – ‘Hooray! Here Comes Tuesday’ was published in 2003."[1]
