Joe Negron
Joe Negron, a State Senator from the 16th Congressional District, was named by Florida's Republican Party to replace Mark Foley as the Republican candidate in the November 7, 2006, congressional election. Negron will face Democrat Tim Mahoney.
Foley resigned immediately on September 29, 2006, after it was revealed that he had sent sexually explicit e-mails and instant messages to male teen pages.
"One obstacle that Negron, 44, faces is that his name will not appear on the ballot. Foley's name will be there, but a vote cast for Foley will register for Negron." [1] "Negron, a Stuart attorney, abandoned a run for attorney general earlier this year after deciding he couldn't defeat Bill McCollum for the Republican nomination."
Negron was defeated by Democrat Tim Mahoney in the November 2006 general election.
