Ingersoll Rand was founded in 1871 as the Ingersoll Rock Drill Company by Simon Ingersoll in New York. In 1905 Ingersoll-Sargeant Drill Company merged with the Rand Drill Company to form Ingersoll Rand. Bloomberg describes the company as "a diversified, global company that provides a diverse range of products and services for a wide range of industries. The Company's operations include consist of air conditioning systems and services, climate control technologies, industrial technologies and security technologies."[1]
Ingersoll Rand is a publicly traded organization. It reported $14.8 billion in total revenue in 2011.[2] It is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland and has been incorporated there since March, 2009. From 2002 to 2009, Ingersoll Rand was incorporated in the Cayman Islands to avoid paying approximately $40 million in taxes. The executive headquarters in the U.S. are located in Davidson, North Carolina.
