Hilary French
Hilary French "is Senior Advisor for Programs at the Worldwatch Institute. She is also currently working as a special advisor to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Hilary has served in several capacities since joining Worldwatch in 1987, including as Vice President for Research, as Director of the Globalization and Governance Project, and as a Senior Researcher.
"Hilary has published widely on global environmental and sustainable development issues, with an emphasis on the role of international institutions and agreements. She has co-authored 15 of the Institute's annual State of the World reports, authored the book Vanishing Borders: Protecting the Planet in the Age of Globalization, and written six Worldwatch Papers. She has also contributed articles to many other publications, including the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs, the Interdependent, the International Herald Tribune, and Scientific American. Her work has been widely cited in the media, and she has made numerous radio and television appearances. She has also made public presentations at many conferences and universities.
"Hilary has represented the Institute in diverse international environmental policy forums, including at the 2002 U.N. World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg and at the 1992 U.N. Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro. She has served as a visiting professor at Williams College, as a consultant to private foundations, as co-chair of the Alliance for U.N. Sustainable Development Programs, and as a member of the Foreign Policy in Focus advisory committee.
"Prior to joining Worldwatch, Hilary worked briefly for Ashoka, a global association of social entrepreneurs, and interned with the United Nations Development Programme in the Ivory Coast and with the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research in Geneva. She majored in history at Dartmouth College and holds a Master's degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University." [1]
