"Equitable Life is the first and oldest mutual life assurance company in the UK. It was established in 1762 and was set up and run for its members and remains a mutual life assurance company today. We are a savings, investment and pensions company. We closed to new business on 8 December 2000. We are based in London and Aylesbury, where we employ about 480 staff. We look after the savings and investments for about 400,000 people and have £6.1bn funds under management." [1]
