The Congress of Democrats from the Islamic World "convened in Istanbul, Turkey in April 2004. Delegates from predominantly Muslim countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East with practical experience in democratic governance gathered to discuss their personal experiences with democratic governance, highlight progress made in many predominantly Muslim countries, and address the challenges that face the movement toward democratic reform."   • Salah Ali Abdulrahman is a Member of the Council of Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain. He is also the President of the National Islamic Forum.

  • Mehmet Aydin is a Minister of State in the Republic of Turkey. Previously, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Divinity at Dokuz Eylül University Theology School in Yzmir. Dr. Aydin is also a member of the International Advisory Committee for the Congress of Democrats from the Islamic World.
  • Mamadou Lamine Ba is the Minister for International Cooperation of the Republic of Senegal. He is also the National Secretary for External Relations of the Senegalese Democratic Party.
  • Fatima Bel Mouddene is a Member of Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco. She is also a member of the political office and organizational committee of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces and directs the party’s Committee on Women.
  • Soumia Benkhaldoun is a Member of Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco, representing the Justice and Development Party. She is also a professor at the Faculty of Sciences in Kenitra.
  • Abbas Bu Safwan is a founding member of Al Wefaq in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He is also the news editor of Al-Wasat newspaper.
