The California Water Environment Association (CWEA) is a sewage industry non-profit organization.[1] CWEA has about 9000 members, 80% of whom work for municipal wastewater agencies and collection systems throughout California.[2] CWEA supports applying sewage sludge to land as fertilizer.

Involvement in San Francisco Sludge Controversy
In March 2010, CWEA sent a letter of support to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission in favor of its sewage sludge compost giveaway program.[3] In their letter, they claimed that applying sewage sludge to land as fertilizer is "safe and time-tested."
