The Private Equity Council (PEC) is a Washington-D.C.-based lobby group for major private equity firms.

The formation of the PEC was announced in December 2006 with the stated intention that it would be "a leading advocate for the domestic and international private equity industry as well as a resource for those seeking to better understand the industry’s role in the rapidly evolving global economy." [1]

Ignacio Ramonet, writing for the Le Monde Diplomatique in November 2007, noted that: "While critics of the economic horrors of globalisation argue, a new and even more brutal form of capitalism is in action. The new vultures are private equity companies, predatory investment funds with vast amounts of capital at their disposal and an enormous appetite for more." [2]
