The Woodside Valley Foundation "was launched on the 23 June 2003 at the Art Gallery of Western Asutralia in front of almost 200 involved guests including the Hon. Sheila McHale, Minister of Culture and Arts and the Hon. Tom Stephens, Minister for Local Government and Regional Development.

"The Foundation was the brainchild of its Founder, Peter Woods, whose interest in Western Australia's early maritime history had developed through his friendship with the late Professor Leslie Marchant." [1]
