William L. Weis (Seattle University School of Business): Expressed the idea that smoking employees cost employers more than nonsmokers
Biography
Early promoter of the "social costs" theory of smoking, speicifcally that smokers cost employers more in absenteeism, insurance costs, cleaning costs, fire insurance premiums, disability. Weis promoted workplace smoking restrictions as a way for employers to save money.
