The Washington Research Group was co-founded in 1974 as The Washington Forum by Greg Valliere, who became the Forum's chief political analyst and editor of the Forum's publications and was named Research Director in 1980. [1][2]

The WRG was subsequently known as Schwab Capital Markets Washington Research Group or the Schwab Washington Research Group, "a division of the institutional trading arm of Charles Schwab & Co." [3][4][5]

The "Schwab Washington Research Group and SoundView Technologies Group merged as of January 2004." "Schwab's Washington Research Group and Technical Analysis Group are part of Schwab Soundview Capital Markets ('SSCM'), the institutional research, trading and execution arm of The Charles Schwab Corporation." [6][7]

On March 3, 2005, the WRG was acquired by the Stanford Group Company and became the Stanford Washington Research Group. [8]
