"Dr. Leavell is a health advisor, consultant, and former interim vice president for health affairs at Howard University in Washington, D.C. He previously served as president of Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, Los Angeles, California. He completed his medical studies at Meharry Medical College and obtained most of his postgraduate training at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York, where he later taught and served as associate dean.
"From 1972 to 1975, Dr. Leavell cultivated the Upstate Minority Education Development Program at the Upstate Medical Center. His administrative appointments include positions as dean of the Meharry Medical College and as medical director (1982–1987) and vice dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati (1975–1982). Dr. Leavell is an active member of a number of medical boards, institutes, and foundations and is past president of the Minority Health Professions Foundation.“ [1]
