Use of Video News Releases and/or Satellite Media Tours
In the 6.30pm news bulletin on June 11, 2005 the station broadcast an edited and re-voiced version of a video news release produced by MultiVu for the American Dental Association on saliva testing for diseases. The broadcast version was a FOX national edit. [1]
According to the "Healthy Housekeeper" website, WGHP aired an SMT titled "Quick & Healthy Housekeeping with Laura Dellutri" on June 8, 2004, at 6:00 AM. [2]
Station Response
In an August 17, 2006, report on the FCC's investigation into unsourced VNRs, the Winston-Salem Journal (which "work[s] cooperatively" with WGHP "to provide local news and other local information") could not get a quote from WGHP staff: [3]
- Karen Adams, WGHP's general manager, said she could not comment.
- Erica Keane, the vice president of media relationships for Fox television, said: "The Fox television stations' policy is clear - all outside news reporting that is used by a station must be identified as to the source. We are taking the appropriate steps to reiterate this policy to our entire station group". ...
- Keane said that, as of yesterday, Fox had not received a letter from the FCC. She declined to make any further comment.
