Val Stevens is a Republican member of the Washington State Senate, having represented District 39 since 1997.[1]Stevens is also a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). For ALEC, she serves on the Telecommunications & Information Technology Task Force as well as the International Relations Committee. [2] In 2007, she received both the Dedicated State Chair Award and the Recognition of Dedication to Jeffersonian Principles award from ALEC[3]

About ALEC
ALEC is a corporate bill mill. It is not just a lobby or a front group; it is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, corporations hand state legislators their wishlists to benefit their bottom line. Corporations fund almost all of ALEC's operations.
