Biography

"Dr. V. Sumantran served as an Executive Director of Passenger Car Business and Engineering Research Centre at Tata Motors Limited. Dr. Sumantran spent 16 years with General Motors Corporation, mostly in the US and subsequently in Europe. He serves as President of the Automotive Research Association of India, and Co-Chairman of the Engineering Services Forum at NASSCOM. He served as Director of Advanced Engineering at SAAB Automobile AB. He serves as the Chairman of Albonair. Dr. Sumantran serves as the Chairman of Ashok Leyland - Nissan Limited. Dr. Sumantran serves as the Chairman of Defiance Technologies Limited. He served as Non-Executive Vice Chairman of Ashok Leyland Limited from November 2011 to March 31, 2014 and served as its Director from October 21, 2008 to March 31, 2014. He served as an Executive Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors at Hinduja Automotive Limited until March 31, 2014. He has been a Non Executive & Independent Director of Ucal Fuel Systems Ltd since July 29, 2009. He serves as a Director of Hinduja Automotive Ltd. He served as a Non-executive Director of Optare Plc., from October 27, 2010 to May 9, 2011. He served as a member of the Board of Tata Technologies Inc. Dr. Sumantran serves on the Science Advisory Council of the Prime Minister of India and the Scientific Advisor Committee to the Cabinet. He is a distinguished Visiting Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Dr. Sumantran holds Doctorate Degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Master's degree in Management of Technology."
