Utility Watch was formed in 2000 to monitor the activities of the Matanuska Electric Association in southern Alaska. According to UtilityWatch, MEA had been found in December of 1999 to be non-compliant in the reporting of some expenditures by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA). Then, MEA attempted to eliminate regulatory oversight by the RCA. UtilityWatch successfully fought for MEA consumers rights and continued oversight by the RCA. Now UtiityWatch believes that MEA's proposal to build the Matanuska Power Plant deserves a great deal of public attention and consideration. UtilityWatch will help provide good information and suggest courses of action.
