Tom de Swaan (March 4, 1946) is a Dutch national. He was first appointed to the Ahold "Supervisory Board on May 3, 2007, and his term runs until 2011. Tom is former CFO of ABN AMRO Bank N.V. He also held various executive positions at the Dutch Central Bank and was a non-executive director of the Financial Services Authority in London. Tom is a member of the Board of GlaxoSmithKline Plc and chairman of its audit committee, and a member of the Board of Directors of Zurich Financial Services. He is chairman of the Supervisory Board of Van Lanschot Bankiers N.V. and a member of the Supervisory Board of Royal DSM and chairman of its audit committee. In addition, Mr. De Swaan is chairman of the Advisory Board of the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University." [1]

"Tom de Swaan graduated from the University of Amsterdam with a master’s degree in economics. He joined De Nederlandsche Bank in 1972, and from 1986 until 1998 was a member of the governing board there. From January 1999 until May 2006 he was a member of the managing board and chief financial officer of ABN AMRO bank.

"Mr. de Swaan is a non-executive member of the board of GlaxoSmithKline Plc and chairman of its Audit Committee. He is a member of the board of Zurich Financial Services and serves on the supervisory board of Royal DSM, a Netherland-based chemical group. He is also the vice-chairman of the supervisory board of Royal Ahold, a global retail chain and chairman of the supervisory board of Van Lanschot Bankiers, a Dutch private bank. He was chairman of the Amsterdam Financial Center, and of the Banking Supervisory Committee of the European Monetary Institute. From 1991 to 1996 he was a member of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, and was its chairman from 1997 to 1998. Mr. de Swaan is a director of a number of non-profit organizations. Among others he is treasurer of the board of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Netherlands Cancer Institute, and the International Liszt Piano Competition. Moreover, he chairs the advisory board of the Rotterdam School of Management and chairs the board of the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Amsterdam. From 1986-2003 he was on the board of the Jewish Historical Museum Amsterdam from which the last four years as chairman." [2]
