"Fourth generation of Swiss-German industrial fortune heads Holcim, the world's second-largest supplier of cement, aggregates and concrete. Holds an engineering degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and a PhD in business administration from Tufts University. Honorary Consul-General of the Republic of Cyprus in Switzerland. His personal wine holdings include the Cuvaison and Chapel Hill labels and the revamped Weingut Schmidheiny, a vineyard in Balgach, Switzerland, where he was born." [1]

His brother is Stephan Schmidheiny.
