Sylvia Karlsson

Sylvia Karlsson "works as senior researcher at Finland Futures Research Centre primarily in a project that looks at multilevel governance of energy for sustainable development in the Mekong area (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia). Her academic training started with an MSc in Biology/Ecotoxicology from Uppsala University and continued with a PhD (political science) from Linköping University, Sweden, where her research focused on multilevel environmental governance. Between 2001-2003 she worked as International Science Project Coordinator at the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP) in Bonn, Germany. In 2003-2004 she was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy where she studied the negotiations for the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD). She has worked shorter periods for UNEP Chemicals in Geneva and the Economic Development Institute of the World Bank, and as program officer for an action research project in Eastern Africa. In parallel to her studies and research she has been actively engaged in the NGO processes of the Rio Conference in 1992, the World Summit for Social Development in 1995 and most recently the World Summit on Sustainable Development where she headed the delegation of the International Environment Forum, a scientific NGO accredited to the Summit. She is a Swedish national."
