Susan Sechler

Susan E. Sechler is a Senior Transatlantic Fellow in German Marshall Fund's "Economic Policy Program, based in Washington. Her work centers on linking trade, agriculture, and development to create a framework for policies ensuring that the poor benefit more directly from growing global markets. Ms. Sechler comes to GMF from the Rockefeller Foundation in New York, where she most recently served as senior advisor for biotechnology from 2002 to 2004. From 1999 to 2002, she was director of the Foundation’s Global Inclusion Program, where she oversaw substantial work in the areas of intellectual property rights, women and work, and global security. Prior to her tenure at Rockefeller, Ms. Sechler worked for 15 years at the Aspen Institute in Washington, where she was vice president for policy and grantmaking programs from 1990 to 1999. While at the Institute, she also served as director of the Rural Economic Policy Program (1986–1992), director of the Pew Global Stewardship Initiative in association with The Pew Charitable Trusts (1992–1996), and program chair of the Economic, Poverty, and Environment Program (1997–1999). Ms Sechler has also held posts in government as the leader of the Clinton/Gore Transition Team for Agriculture in 1992 and as deputy assistant secretary for economics, policy analysis and budget at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the Carter administration. She is on the Board of Directors for The Center for Budget and Policy Priorities and Island Press." [1]
