Susan Ivey was the Chief Executive Officer of Brown & Williamson from 2001-2004, and the CEO of Reynolds American from 2004-present. Her compensation in 2008 was valued at US $8.8 million, about a 12 percent increase over the previous year. Her 2008 salary was $1.25 million and the rest of her pay was as a $5.19 million performance-based incentive bonus. $2.18 million was in the form of stocks and options. Ivey also received additional compensation worth $211,416, which included a $79,000 payment given in place of the company's old executive perks program, a $30,000 membership in a club and an undisclosed value for personal flights on company-owned planes.[1]
Shortly after becoming R.J. Reynolds' CEO, Ivey gave a speech at the 58th annual meeting of the Tobacco Science Research Conference in which she quoted John F. Kennedy, saying "Our most basic common link, is that we all inhabit this small planet, we all breathe the same air, we all cherish our children's futures, and we are all mortal."[2]
