Stephen Schwenke "is an urban development specialist, development ethicist, and director of development initiatives for Management Systems International, a leading consulting firm in international development. Schwenke has comprehensive experience in deliberative participation in local development initiatives, site planning, and project management, with over 23 years of experience working in urban development, planning and design in developing countries. Schwenke was resident in Kenya for ten years, where he established an architectural and planning firm that ultimately had offices in four African countries. He also lived in Durban, South Africa, for three years, where he established and directed a branch office of a major international planning and development consulting firm. While Africa has been his geographic focus, he has also had extensive project experience in Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, Europe, and North America. Schwenke pursued undergraduate studies at Syracuse University and the Architectural Association (UK), and completed his M.A. at Georgetown University. He received his Ph.D. in Policy Studies from the School of Public Affairs at the University of Maryland. Dr. Schwenke teaches Urban Issues in Developing Countries and Ethical Perspectives on International Development.“
