Stephen M. Saideman

"Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science (Ph.D., University of California, San Diego, 1993.) Professor Saideman joined the McGill this fall (2002) and specializes in issues related to political competition and foreign policy and the international and domestic politics of ethnic conflicts. His work has been published in or accepted by Comparative Political Studies, International Organization, Journal of Peace Research, Journal of Politics, Nationalism and Ethnic Politics, and Security Studies, as well as in edited volumes published by Princeton and Cornell University Presses. His book, The Ties That Divide: Ethnic Politics, Foreign Policy and International Conflict (Columbia University Press) is now available at http://www.amazon.com/ and the usual outlets.

"He is now the Book Review Editor for Nationalism and Ethnic Politics. Last year, Steve was an International Affairs Fellowship provided by the Council on Foreign Relations. He worked in the Central and East Europe Division in the Strategic Planning Directorate of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as a politico-military planner working mostly on issues related to the NATO peacekeeping operations in Bosnia, but also dealt with issues relating to other parts of what used to be Yugoslavia."
