Stephen J. Hemsley is the chief executive officer of insurer UnitedHealth Group. He is the highest-paid CEO in America, according to Forbes magazine, receiving a total annual compensation of $101.96 million, and a five year average annual income of over $120 million. He graduated from Fordham University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and did not attend postgraduate school. [1] He was named president and CEO of UnitedHealth Group on Nov. 30, 2006. He previously served as president and chief operating officer, UnitedHealth Group, and is a member of the company’s board of directors. Hemsley joined UnitedHealth in June, 1997.[2]
