Standard Oil

The Standard Oil Company was founded in 1870 by John D. Rockefeller -- other associates, including S. V. Harkness and Henry M. Flagler -- and his brother William Rockefeller. It was organized as the Standard Oil Company of Ohio and capitalized at $1 million.[1] Another key person was Henry H. Rogers .

In 1999, the Mobil Oil Company merged with Exxon (formerly Jersey Standard / Esso) to become Exxon Mobil. [2]
