Sig Gissler

Sig Gissler "has been administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes since 2002. A special faculty member at Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism, Gissler is founder of "Let's Do It Better," the school's national Workshops on Journalism, Race and Ethnicity.

"He is the former editor of The Milwaukee Journal. During his 25 years with the paper, he served as reporter, editorial page editor and associate editor before becoming editor in 1985. Gissler left the paper in 1993 to become a senior fellow at the Freedom Forum's Media Studies Center, exploring media coverage of race. He joined the Columbia faculty in 1994 where he taught reporting and writing and created a seminar called "Race and Ethnicity in the New Urban America."

"In 1998, Gissler was voted teacher of the year at the journalism school and in 2002 was given a Presidential Teaching Award at Columbia, one of five professors out of 300 nominated campus-wide. A graduate of Lake Forest College, Gissler was a Journalism Fellow at Stanford University in 1975-1976 and a visiting professor at Stanford in 1993. He is a member of the American Society of Newspaper Editors and a former Pulitzer Prize juror."
