Seteney Shami

"Ms. Shami is an anthropologist from Jordan with degrees from the American University in Beirut (B.A.) and the University of California, Berkeley (M.A., Ph.D.). After teaching for 14 years and establishing the first graduate department of anthropology in Jordan at Yarmouk University, Ms. Shami moved in 1996 to the regional office of the Population Council in Cairo as director of the Middle East Awards in Population and the Social Sciences (MEAwards). She has also been a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, Georgetown University, University of Chicago, Stockholm University and the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study in the Social Sciences (Uppsala). Seteney is on the editorial board of several journals including Cultural Anthropology, and Ethnos and International Migration Review. She is a member of several international research networks, among them the Interdisciplinary Network on Globalization and the Global Urban Research Initiative. She has also been a consultant for a number of organizations including UNICEF, ESCWA and the Ford Foundation." [1]
