Scott Wallace (SR. VP of Marketing at Brown & Williamson 1981): Scott Wallace was senior vice president of marketing for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation (1981) (L. White, Merchants 1988). In 1981, Wallace explained that the advertisements for the new Barclay brand were meant to recall a time when people did not have negative thoughts about smoking. Wallace said, "the idea was to harken back to when smoking was really a pleasure; to the day when the person at the next table wasn't complaining to the maitre d' . . ." (L. White, Merchants 1988).
