Scott A. Coffina was named June 8, 2007, by President George W. Bush to be an Associate Counsel to the President and Special Counsel to the President[1] in the Office of Counsel.

Coffina, who recently served as a Partner[2] in the litigation department at Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads LLP in Philadelphia, is "a friend and former associate" with White House Counsel Fred Fielding's former firm, Wiley Rein & Fielding, LLP.[3]

"Coffina graduated from the University of Pennsylvania law school in 1992, and shortly afterward went to work at Fielding's Washington law firm, where the two developed a lasting friendship. After Fielding's appointment earlier this year as White House counsel, he called Coffina to ask whether Coffina would consider coming to work for him."[4]

"His new assignment will place Coffina, a white-collar defense lawyer with long experience in health care and employment law, at the center of White House efforts to respond to multiple investigations launched by congressional Democrats."[5]

At the end of President Ronald Reagan's second term, Coffina served as Assistant United States Attorney in United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.[6] Coffina was previously an Associate at Miller Alfano & Raspanti in Philadelphia. He "received his bachelor's degree from Cornell University and his JD from the University of Pennsylvania."[7]

According to his firm profile[8], Coffina "concentrates his practice on government investigations and white collar crime, with special emphasis on civil and criminal fraud investigations, health care fraud and internal corporate investigations."
