Biography

Saul Shiffman was a psychology professor at the University of Pittsburgh in 1994. Shiffman has studied low-rate smoking as it relates to addiction (WSJ 7/5/94). Shiffman says it's dangerous for people to think they can control nicotine addiction by smoking only "socially". Only a tiny minority of people can control their smoking for any sustained time. "It is a very dangerous enterprise" (WSJ 7/5/94).
