Samuel G. Landfather was a political operative with the Missouri Republican party. He was a retired executive of the Sunnen Products Company (tool-making) and also the Executive Director of the Sunnen Foundation which promoted contraception, and financially supported Roe vs. Wade. This was a Catholic dissident group.

He was also the president of The Missouri Chamber of Commerce, when its promotional arm was run by the ex-Missouri Assembleman, Paul G. Dietrich.

In the late 1970s, he became a key member (the actual Chairman) of the Republican front group, National Center for Legislative Research run by Paul Dietrich as an arm of the Fund for a Conservative Majority and the Reagan Presidential campaign (Jack Kemp was given the nominal title of "Honorary Chairman"). This organization worked for the tobacco industry.
